-- Hilary's Latest Medical Information --
July 1, 2006
Hilary saw her neuro-ophthalmologist
Tuesday and received some good news! After four hyperbaric treatments,
her right eye is improving enough that Dr. Carter is decreasing the
steroid dose from 4 pills / day to 3 pills / day. He stated there is a
limit to how long you can keep someone on steroids, especially at that
high of a dose. He plans to see her again in two weeks after more
treatments, and if she continues to improve, to decrease the dose to 2
pills a day. The last time he weaned her off, he took six weeks. This
time, he plans on doing it slower, over 12 weeks, while continuing the
hyperbaric treatments on a "spread out" kind of schedule.
He went on to
tell Hilary that her chart is the thickest in his office, and that while
she isn't his "worst" patient, she is his "hardest". (His "worst"
patients don't get better, he says.) He has shared Hilary's case with
his colleagues across the nation in a neuro-ophthalmology chat room (I
bet that's some dry reading!) and truly believes Hilary is getting the
best, most up-to-date care available. This belief was echoed by Dr.
Sheehan in Virginia who did her Gamma-Knife in July. He is being kept
current through Dr. Bogaev's office, here.
Hilary is ready to get rid
of the steroid "moonface", and can't wait to get OFF THE STEROIDS, as
she says.
Thanks, as always, for your continued prayers and entries
into Hil's guest book page on her website. They are a continued source
of encouragement for all of us.
Love to all--the Morrows.
