-- Hilary's Medical Situation --
November 14, 2005
Hilary told us
yesterday that her vision seemed much worse to her, worse even than a few
days before. Connie called and got her in to see the neuro ophthalmologist
again yesterday. Visual fields were done, again, and this time showed that
Hilary is nearing total blindness in her right eye. The left eye is
unchanged and fine--20 / 20 vision with a contact!
Dr. Carter gave Hilary
the option of going into the hospital to receive massive IV steroid therapy
or to go home and receive massive oral steroid therapy. Home was chosen.
He says we will know by Tuesday if the steroids are working.
The ordered
dose of Decadron was so high that Humana refused to cover the cost, so we
paid out of pocket, and will fight that battle Monday morning. Dr. Carter
was upset at the insurance and told us that he would write them a letter
Monday so we would get reimbursed, hopefully.
Hilary counted and she takes 58 pills a day, now.
