[The note below was posted on Canon's main page on February 2, 2007. He was able to go back home from the hospital on February 5, 2007.]
Canon was admitted to the hospital in Amarillo on Wednesday night with pneumonia. In light of what happened in December (when Canon's Prograf levels became toxic because we weren't getting lab results until the next day), Dr. Young, Dr. Higgins, and Dr. Karpen made the call to transfer him to Lubbock yesterday (Thursday) where we can get same-day Prograf levels. He's on oxygen (nasal cannula) so they had to move him by ambulance instead of letting us take him down here. We hadn't ridden in an ambulance since the transplant; Canon thought it was very cool... and "very bumpy". He's doing okay - just running on fumes, though, because he hasn't really eaten in almost four days. His eyes lack the twinkle, but he still flashes a silly grin now and then. This morning he let us know that 8:30 was not going to work for him by pulling his blanket over his face and going back to sleep. He has impressed the nurses and doctors with his familiarity with the hospital drill. "You want to take my blood pressure? Listen to my heart?"
Thanks for the prayers!
Chandra
P.S. We miss you Creed! Canon's been asking where you are. I showed him a picture in the x-ray room of the Walt Disney World castle and asked him if he would like to live in a castle. He said, "No, I don't want to live in a castle. I want to live at home with Creed." I love you mucho mucho!
